Because in the end, our world is unjust not because it has to be, but because we've made it so. And to change that, I believe we need people who are ready to do the hard, and often long, work, of changing the culture from within, together, so there is lasting institutional impact.
Peers matters because it's about people--youth--and their leadership right now. It's about empowering people to know what to do when they don't know what to do. It's grounded in love for community, fighting oppression while realizing a vision of liberation. And we have to do both at the same time: fight back, and create.
Transforming the world happens every minute of every day. Peers is doing that work, has been, and will continue to--with your help.
I've been Executive Director of Peers for six years now, and I've always felt lucky to work at such a right on organization. For 38 years already, Peer Resources has changed lives in San Francisco, empowered tens of thousands of youth, and impacted our public middle and high schools in the city. I'm a mother to two amazing young people, and they remind me often what this work is about: growing up in an unjust world that we can change every minute of each day with who we are.
Youth need meaningful and real opportunities to lead and make decisions,
Our community needs role-models for inspiration and personal transformation,
Peer Resources supports youth by creating space for them to find purpose through service to others
And continues that support after graduation to move forward with adulthood and life, successfully.

Our goal is to raise $20,000 to fund our two youth-led conferences: Transformative Change Day, where high school leaders share their research and plans for action in our community; and the Youth Are Resources Conference, where 200 middle school students lead workshops on the ethics topics of their choice. Both are critical opportunities for youth to take center stage, make their voices heard, and work together and create change.
